BIBI STAR's philosophy is simple: create socially-conscious pieces that make people feel good and look fantastic. It is the confluence of aesthetic, utility, and resistance.
BIBI STAR is founded and led by an Afghan-American artist and architect, heavily drawing from the many facets of her identity to produce each product; which include design, art, architecture, pop culture, music, film, her ethnic heritage, political critique and revolutionary ideology.
The driving force behind BIBI STAR was a frustration with the collective consciousness and a distrust for political and economic systems of power and knowledge production. That being said, our mission is to radicalize and reject contemporary capitalism in an effort to redirect the wealth and raise awareness in the greater social discourse.
The fashion industry itself has many flaws, including the detrimental impact it has on the environment and its historical support of exploitative labor practices. And yet, it remains extremely influential - which makes our mission to promote a more sustainable and ethically driven market even more vital.
With that in mind, BIBI STAR strives to work with ethical manufacturers that make their products out of recycled materials. We source our t-shirts from EVERYBODY.WORLD, a company dedicated to fair wages and sustainable production, who make their products out of 100% recycled material. We use biodegradable packaging materials in an effort to reduce waste. In the future we hope to push things even further by partnering with organizations and social justice movements to create avenues of support through our designs.
